Home Remedies for Pink Eye, Natural Treatment



Home remedies for pink eye are effective, safe and provide long lasting relief from the problem. Pink eye or conjunctivitis caused by any bacteria or virus is contagious and it may also cause an itch in the eyes which can be very disturbing.

For immediate relief from itching due to conjunctivitis warm compresses are very useful, eyes covered by a warm cloth for few minutes can relieve the itching. Chamomile tea is very useful home remedy for pink eyes. A cloth soaked in chamomile tea and covering the eyes with it for few minutes for several times in a day, provides relief and treats the infection. Moist chamomile tea bags are also used for treatment by keeping them on the eyes for few minutes. Few drops of castor oil in the affected eye also help in relieving the problem.

Boric acid eye wash is an effective home remedy for pink eyes as it helps in removing the toxins from the eye. Calendula is also used as an eye wash or through local compresses for treating pink eye problem. Another very effective home remedy for conjunctivitis is by soaking jasmine flowers in distilled water overnight and using that water as an eye drop for few times in a day. Few drops of honey mixed with warm water in the affected eye also alleviates the problem and cures the infection however this may cause some burning sensation in the eyes. Cotton balls dabbed in the mixture of salt and boiled water, kept on the eyes for few minutes also helps in killing the infection.



Eyebright tincture or euphrasia officinalis used with boiled and cooled water, for soaking the eyes, with a small cloth or cotton ball also treats the problem well. Rinsing the affected eye with a mild baby shampoo is also a useful home remedy for pink eyes. Hot and cold compresses to the eyes for few times in a day, reduces the problem and redness of the eye. In the case when conjunctivitis is accompanied by sticky discharge, treating them with lemon juice is very effective. A cotton cloth or cotton ball dabbed in lemon juice and placed on the eyes for few minutes will help in removing the toxins from the eye and curing the infection.

Aloe vera juice is also an effective home remedy for pink eye. Cloth soaked with aloe vera juice and placed on the eyes gives relief from the itching and treats the problem. Using the mixture of cider vinegar and distilled water as a douche is also a useful remedy. If the problem of conjunctivitis is due to bacterial infection, taking alcohol vapors is an effective treatment as it helps in removing the infection quickly.

Warm compresses of herbal oils like chamomile, rose and lavender are good home remedies for pink eye. Few drops of any of these oils added in boiled and cooled water, later soaking any cotton cloth in it and covering the eyes with the cloth for few minutes, give beneficial results. In the case of children, washing the eyes with breast milk is an effective and safest home remedy for conjunctivitis.
