Toothache refers to pain in or around a tooth or teeth. The cause of toothache may vary but generally occur due to unhygienic oral health. It is a result of inflammation or injury to dental pulp. The most common cause of a toothache is tooth decay (caries) that irritates and can possibly affect the pulp of the teeth. It is also caused due to cracked tooth, tooth impaction, exposed root, eruption, dental cavities, gum disease, and due to diseases of the temporomandibular joint.
Improper brushing, dyspepsia, not chewing food properly, too much of intake of refined sugar and general neglect are the major reason for tooth problems. Processed food, refined wheat flour, polished rice, excess sugar and soft drinks are the reasons for poor dental health.
Carelessness of the teeth and too little roughage in the diet may also cause this problem. Brushing the teeth after every meal is one of the easiest and safest home remedies for toothache.
To prevent toothache consume alkalis included foods. Wheat flour, unpolished rice, fruit and green vegetables will help you to get rid of toothache. Flour, unpolished rice, dates, carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, gourds, cucumber and spinach contains good amount of calcium.
Food containing vitamin C like guava, oranges, lemon and cabbage are very effective home remedies for toothache. Garlic, pineapple and grapes are good for bleeding gums. Teeth exercise is an easy and safe home remedy for toothache. Hard foods like hard-crusted fruits and raw vegetables should be chewed properly.
Prepare a powder of rock salt (sendha namak). Take two grams of it in your palm, and then drop mustard (sarso) oil four times the amount of salt in your palm. Mix it with the finger and massage your teeth and gums with this paste daily in the morning. Daily application cures almost all teeth problems like bleeding gums, pyorrhea and toothache. Instead of rock salt, turmeric powder could also be applied along with mustard oil to cure teeth problems.

You can apply it to a decayed tooth cavity. It can help in reducing pain. The clove oil contains antiseptic properties. Clove oil mixed with black pepper (kaali mirch) powder and a little salt is very effective against toothache.
The antibacterial properties of onion makes it an effective home remedies for toothache. Placing a piece of the onion upon the affected tooth or gum is beneficial in toothache. Eating a raw onion daily is one of the best natural home remedy for toothache.
Do not take very cold or very hot food or drinks. Cabbage is a rich source of vitamin B and C, which makes it highly beneficial in treating pyorrhea. Daily intake of fresh leaves of cabbage is recommended for those suffering with tooth problems. Similarly, chewing fresh leaves of spinach makes the gums strong and prevents pyorrhea.
Take half a glass of water with half lemon juice twice a week. This will keep your mouth fresh and healthy. Lemon is a rich source of vitamin C, which is good for your teeth. For sudden toothache, place a small piece of ginger upon the affected tooth. Chewing leaves of guava tree also relieves toothache.
