Home Remedies for Boils

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

This article discusses home remedies for boils and mostly focuses on the natural treatment of this health problem. A boil, also referred to as a furuncle in medical circles, is an infection caused by a blocked hair follicle. Once the hair follicle is blocked, bacteria start to develop and the more time passes, the worse it gets. Boils typically form all of a sudden, as a red or pink bump is shaped up, around half of an inch in a diameter. The skin surrounding it might also get swollen.

In the space of just 24 hours, the bump starts to fill up with pus. As it gets larger and larger, the boil becomes more painful when you touch it or scratch it. In the matter of one week, the boil could potentially reach the size of a golf-ball as shocking as this might sound to you. Finally, at the end of its development, the boil forms a yellowish tip that eventually ruptures, breaks out and the puss flows out. In a typical scenario, boils no more than 10 days, with the smaller ones normally healing without leaving any scars on the skin. However, larger boils that are not treated properly could leave a scar.

But enough with the theory, let's get to some real home remedies for boils explaining how you can treat them naturally. Hydrotherapy is the first type of remedy that we suggest you try because it's really simple to carry out and yet the effects are very good. The whole label "hydrotherapy" might sound a bit complex but it just consists of a warm compress that has been proven to help soften the pain that comes with boils. It really works due to the fact that fresh blood is drawn into the infected area by the warm compress allowing for the infection to cure faster.

Another really effective home remedy for boils is the combination of onion and garlic. These two are among the world’s strongest antioxidants and both have a lot of useful ingredients. What you have to do is extract the juice of the onion and garlic and simply apply it over the boil. This will help rip up the boil hence the pus flows out and the whole process is speeded up from the regular seven to ten days, to only just a couple. The onion and garlic should be of equal quantities.

Another one of our highly-effective home remedies for boils is to make a mix a pinch of turmeric powder with 1 tea spoon of vinegar, and 1 tea spoon of milk cream. This makes up a special remedy that also breaks up the boil but without letting it become septic.

Betel leaves are also considered as home remedies for boils due to the powerful medical properties that they contain. Simply warm up the betel leaves and coat them over with some castor oil. The spread the leaves over the boil, cover it with some bandage and keep on changing the leaves on every two-three hours.
