The herb Neem, popularly known as margosa is scientifically named as Azadirachta Indica. It is a tree from the mahogany family Meliaceae. Being a native herb to India, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Pakistan, it best thrives in tropical and semi-tropical climates. The Neem tree is one of the fastest growing plants that grow up to an average height of 15-20 meters. On rare occasions the trees grow to a good 35-40 meters. Although it is an evergreen tree, during drought seasons Neem can shed all of its leaves. Neem is a very invasive plant and can thrive in non-native areas.
Neem or Azadirachta Indica is known in India through a variety of names such as "Divine Tree", "Heal All", "Nature's Drugstore", "Village Pharmacy" and "Panacea for all diseases". While it may be surprising how an herb can be recognized with so many different names, it is very common to the people who make daily use of it. Most of these names are self-explanatory. Medicinal products manufactured from Neem have been proven to be very beneficial as they contain anthelmintic, antifungal, antidiabetic, antiviral, anti-fertility, antibacterial and sedative properties. In ayurvedic medicines, Neem is considered to be one of the major components for treating skin diseases.
One of the great benefits of Neem is that, depending on the medicine being prepared, all the parts of the tree can be used. The seeds, leaves, flowers and bark all play essential roles in their own unique ways. Cosmetic manufactures put Neem oil as one of the components in their products. This oil is very effective in treating problems like acne scars. It also provides beneficial uses as a mosquito repellent.
Since Neem or Azadirachta Indica has antidiabetic properties, the gum produced from this tree is used in bulk for preparing special types of diabetic foods. Extracts derived from Neem leaves have been used against malaria prophylaxis. According to Ayurvedic practices, patients suffering from chicken pox are recommended to consume Neem. People who have slept over a layer of Neem leaves find it an effective and faster cure to Chicken Pox and measles. In addition to that you can also gently rub the leaves on the body while showering.

Also a common practice that one can witness early morning in the residential areas all over India is people chewing on freshly snapped Neem twigs and branches in order to keep their teeth clean. The juices derived from the branches are indeed quite bitter, but the results are worth the slight discomfort. Neem is highly utilized in treating scabies. Since the scabies mite is not yet resistant against Neem, it has been recorded to be successful a number of times. No matter in which way or form Neem is consuming it is beneficial to the body in every way.
Because of the significant detoxifying properties, Neem or Azadirachta Indica helps protects healthy circulatory, digestive, respiratory and urinary systems of the body.
