Nails are the important part of body and they too require care. Hence their care is essential for numerous reasons. Clean and beautiful hands with neat and healthy nails are good to look at and also to hold. The dirty and poor looking nails, makes the hands look ugly even if the hands are good looking and healthy. Hence for the hands to look healthy and beautiful the nails need to be healthy and strong. For this, certain procedures are needed to be followed such as, regular cleaning of hands, properly treating the cuticles and letting your nails absorb moisture well.
As an added covering to your fingers, nails help you in numerous activities such as scratching an itch, peeling an orange or strumming a guitar. They are helpful all the time but their excess use or misuse can lead to situations right from fungal infections to brittle or broken nails. Nails and hair are made up of the same type of protein called as keratin. The parts of a nail are Nail plate, nail bed, Matrix, Lunula, Cuticle and Nail fold. All of these parts require care for a healthy nail. Follow the below steps to get your nails in good and health condition -
* Do not over manicure or over polish your nails.
* Moisturize the nails to help protect them, as we do with our hair and skin to keep them healthy.
* Vitamin E and moisturizer when applied on nails after soaking them in warm water and drying, keeps them healthy and in a good condition.
* Filing the nails should be done very carefully. Do not file in multiple directions. File them only in one direction rather than filing back and forth.
* Do not keep your toenails as curved or pointed, keep them clipped straight across to avoid the ingrown toenail.
* Do not use a metal file; rather try using a fine textured emery board. This is because the metal files are hard on nails.
* After moisturizing, push back your cuticles very softly rather than cutting them down.
* Don't apply the nail products too often or manicure them.
* Never use them as the prying tool.
* Have plenty of protein for good nails.
* Add up the protein supplements to your diet to get healthy nails.
* Eat up legumes, grains, oatmeal, nuts, seeds and eggs to gain protein in your diet.
* Do not eat the simple carbohydrates or sugars too much in your diet.
* Add up the fresh fruits and vegetables upto 50% of your total intake in your diet.
* Drink lots of quality water and fluids. The cracked or cut nails indicate about the need of water in the body.
* Fresh carrot juice consumed on a daily basis increases the level of calcium and phosphorous in the body which is essential for the good nails.
* Citrus fruits, salt and vinegar should be taken in the daily diet at a moderate rate. Excessive intake may imbalance the mineral level in your body.
