Liquorice or licorice has a long and highly varied record of its uses in traditional medicines. It is one of the most important herbs used as demulcent (soothing and coating agent) in the digestive and urinary tracts. It is therefore helpful in coughs and to soothe sore throats. The demulcent and anti-ulcerogenic action of Licorice is helpful in gastric and duodenal ulcers. It promotes healing of gastrointestinal tracks' ulcers as the herb is considered as best soothing herb for digestive system.
Licorice or Mulethi is widely been used in various diseases. The good thing about this herb is it does not have any bitter taste and hence, unlike other Ayurvedic medicines, patients do not feel any nauseating while taking this herb. Children, too, feel good with the herb and therefore, an administration of the herb to children is quite easy. The herb Licorice is effectively used as respiratory organ toner and to treat various skin problems and almost all allergic conditions as the herb is anti-allergic and possesses anti-inflammatory action.

Take 1-2 capsules twice a day after meal or as directed by your health practitioner.
Licorice is not recommended for people suffering from arterial hypertension or kidney problems. When taken in excess, it can cause water retention and hypertension. These adverse effects can be lessened by taking large dosage of potassium and lower the intake of sodium (table salt). Consumption of this herb during pregnancy is not advised.
