An example of the most common skin irritation is itching. And itching stems from either an insect bite or a reaction to certain kinds of food intake or contact with certain substances. Inflammation of the skin due to rashes and allergies is also a form of skin irritation or dermatitis.
Skin irritation such as itching and inflammation distract the focus of the person suffering, and can be very frustrating for the sufferer. So let us look at some home remedies for skin irritation.
Itching arises mainly because the skin is dry. To keep it moist various kinds of oils can be used. Most oils can moisturize it, but penetrating oil is better as it can seep into the outer layers of the skin and alleviate the dryness which is the cause of the irritation. Olive oil is good as it penetrates deep into the epidermis and moisturizes the skin. But it must be used continuously till the rough, dry and sometimes scaly skins go away.
Skin irritation can also result from hair removal procedures such as shaving, as during the process part of the outer layers of the epidermis may also be removed. This may result in a skin irritation. So it's always important for women to put on soothing oil like olive oil soon after shaving to prevent irritation of the skin later.
When skin is itchy, do not scratch it as it'll only aggravate it. That is difficult, but an alternative way which does not aggravate it is to use your palms and rub it on the itchy part gently. This will give some relief. You can also use olive oil and smoothen it on. But it is not necessary, for this is an effective way with or without oil to get some relief.
A paste of lime juice with either finely ground poppy seeds or with sandalwood powder are also ways to soothe irritation.
A good treatment for skin irritation caused by inflammation is to use Aloe vera. An inflamed skin is warm and using the inside of the succulent, cool Aloe leaf, will cool it sufficiently to get rid of the heat. When the skin cools, the redness will disappear.
Some people will get an inflamed face after a facial is done. After a facial you can overcome this skin irritation, by wrapping some ice cubes in a small face towel, and patting it on the skin on the face, for at least 15 minutes. This cools it and contracts the tiny blood vessels on the face and the redness will disappear.
Skin irritation is the result of rashes and allergies. If you get relief from the irritation with the home remedy only for a while and it comes back again, you're most probably allergic to something. You must find out what that something or allergen is, which is giving irritation, by trial and error. Once you eliminate it from your surroundings or diet, you'll find you'll get permanent relief with the home remedies for skin irritation.
