The most common form of dandruff is dry, flaky skin. Here the scalp sheds the dry skin of the scalp as flakes, which are white in color. The white specks are found on your hair and on your shoulders. This is the dry variety. The other form of dandruff is oily and sticks to the scalp. This may contain bacteria. Either way if you've dandruff, it is best not to share towels, combs or brushes. There are many home remedies for dandruff for you to use, to get rid of it.
One of the home remedies for dandruff is vinegar, either the white variety or Apple cider. Add 2 tablespoon in a little water and use it as an effective remedy for dandruff. As vinegar is a normal astringent, it can unblock the sebaceous glands which may be the result of years of using commercial shampoo and conditioner. They create a build-up which not only makes hair look dull, but also dries up the sebum by blocking the ducts through which sebum can flow. Once the ducts of the sebaceous glands get cleaned up, the glands release sebum which naturally conditions the scalp, and it loses its dryness and flakiness. To apply on the scalp, part your hair and apply a little vinegar in cotton wool along the parting. Take a different parting and apply, and repeat this process, till the whole scalp is covered. Rinse off with water.
Another rinse you can use to ensure no build up occurs is lemon juice in a little water. Use it the same way as the vinegar above.
Yoghurt is also excellent as one of the home remedies for dandruff. Apply the yoghurt to the scalp by parting the hair as described above, for the application of vinegar.
Another one of the home remedies for dandruff is to rub warm olive oil on the scalp. The oil will stop the scalp from drying and flaking. After applying the oil to the partings of the hair, leave it for an hour and wash it off with a mild soap. Rinse with lots of water, and give a final rinse in either vinegar or lemon juice.
Instead of commercial shampoo, you can make your own shampoo. Add enough yoghurt to gram flour to make a paste. Rub this on your scalp and hair, before washing off with water. You can follow this with a lemon rinse. This is a good remedy for the oily type of dandruff that sticks to your scalp.
Another one of the home remedies for dandruff especially for the oily, stick-to-the-scalp kind, is to rub soda bicarbonate into the scalp and rinse off with water. Soda bicarbonate will absorb the oil from the sticky dandruff, and then you can wash it off easily with water.
For any condition of scalp or hair, you must eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables. Also take foods rich in Vitamin A and E, and especially, Vitamin B. Also take minerals such as zinc, iodine and iron. So, a diet of brown rice, green leafy vegetables, carrots, tomatoes, berries, bananas, dried apricots, brown rice, almonds, cashews and sunflower seeds would cover all if not most of the nutrients important for hair. In addition drink lots of water to cleanse the body system.
By following a diet rich in vitamins and minerals, and drinking a lot of water, the home remedies for dandruff stated above will work for you, if you are determined to use it till the dandruff disappears.
