Home Remedies for Damaged Hair

Damaged hair is the result of years of curling or straightening with harsh chemicals, using dryers or curling irons or just plain neglecting your hair, for example, going for hours under the sun without covering your head. When you do these things, you damage your hair. The hair becomes undernourished, dry, and frizzy with split-ends. Before you can think of home remedies, stop all that you've been doing for the past few years and decide to use home remedies consistently. If you've been straightening your hair, you've to stop doing it, and let your curls grow again. If you've been curling it for years, decide to live with straight hair and love it too. And if you've been drying with a dryer, year in and year out, decide the fan is a much better deal than the dryer.

First, before beginning one of the home remedies for damaged hair, get your hairdresser to cut off your split ends.

Now, let's look at some home remedies for damaged hair that will help you heal some of the damage that has been done to your hair, so that it can slowly return to the beautiful, healthy hair you had before.

Use almond oil, the most nourishing oil. Heat treatment is not only for dry hair, but it's particularly useful for damaged hair. Almond is very nourishing oil for damaged hair. Massage your hair and scalp with this oil. You can take a towel that is as hot as you can stand, and wrap it around your head. Do it a few times. It's best to do at night so that you can continue the hot treatment throughout the night, by placing a shower cap and then wrap a dry towel. The plastic shower cap creates a sauna-like affect which continues the hot treatment. The dry towel will keep you comfortable while you sleep.

Use mayonnaise which has both oil and eggs in it. Egg nourishes the hair, so that your hair will slowly become stronger and healthier. Cover it as in the oil heat treatment. Leave it for at least two hours, and then shampoo it off with a mild shampoo.

For damaged hair you must continue this treatment daily. You can alternate the almond oil, with the egg, treatment.

Shampoo with a very mild shampoo after each treatment and as final rinse use vinegar. Vinegar will remove any remnants of the shampoo. It'll also soon make your have shiny hair as well.

You also need to help damaged hair from inside too. Take as many proteins, natural vitamins and minerals through food like whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. The rawer the food the better, it'll be as the vitamins are not lost in the cooking. Take lots of fruits, salads and nuts. They will put back the nourishment the hair has lost through any previous harsh treatment.

Water as always is so important. It is the medium through which nourishment can be sent to the hair follicles and toxins can be removed. So do not forget to drink at least eight glasses of water daily.

By doing some of the home remedies for damaged hair such as, hot treatment, eating as many fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables; and drinking as much water as possible; your hair is going to recover fast. Do the heat treatment everyday at the beginning. You can later cut it down to three times a week and finally when your hair is normal, do maintenance of once a week or once a month depending on how your hair is doing.
