Swelling in the body parts refers to the enlargement of tissues, which can be caused by many reasons such as injury, trauma, tumor, inflammation or other reasons. Symptoms of swelling are inflammation, pain, itching, redness and loss of function. Sometimes, bumps are caused due to some mosquito bite, or due to poor blood flow to the body parts. Poor blood circulation can cause bumps in the body parts and it even reduces healing process. It may happen that the blood from the blood vessels seeps into the tissues and cause enlargement. Sometimes, it is caused while you are walking or standing for long.
Care for bumps caused by injury: If an injury causes a bump, one should immediately get it examined. Sometimes, it may be caused due to fracture and if it causes fainting and vomiting in the patient, one must immediately rush to the doctor. If one has bumps caused by an injury, he /she should wrap an elastic bandage soaked in ice water and compress the injured part with ice for at least twenty minutes. The injured part should be elevated above the heart to provide blood circulation to the injured area. Rest and protection are best methods to prevent pain caused by bumps.
Swelling caused by standing in one position for long: Many people suffer from swelling in legs caused by sitting to standing in one position or long .To reduce such condition, one should exercise and lift the knees up to help the blood to pump upwards.
Swelling caused due to heavy exercising: Sometimes, people suffer from inflammation and swelling in legs and arms, after heavy exercising .To prevent the inflammation one should not stop immediately after a heavy exercising schedule, instead, one should continue doing some light exercises after exercising profoundly.
Swelling in lower arms caused by biking: Swinging arms may cause swelling in arms, which is caused by the centrifugal force created in the swinging arm. One should loosen the arm to allow blood flow and if the lower portion of the arm swells because of regularly griping the bikes, you should use padded gloves.
Drink a lot of water and fluids: Fluids helps in keeping the body hydrated and helps in elimination of toxins from the body.
Massage: In case of swelling, one can massage the area with olive oil but if there are other conditions such as fracture or bleeding, one should not massage. Using lime juice and olive oil together on feet is also effective in treating feet swelling. Applying heat and cold compress to swelling in lower back, knees and ankles, helps in reducing the pain.
Soaking: Soaking feet in water for some time, helps in improving blood circulation. One can put a spoon of salt or baking powder in a tub of warm water and keep the feet in the tub for some minutes. After removing the feet from the tub apply massage oil such as tea tree oil on the swelling .The oil can be applied two to three times in day on the swelling.
