Infectious Tracheobronchitis, Kennel Cough in Dogs

As some people do not have much idea about the diseases of the dogs. Sometimes we think that something is stucked in the throat of the dog. The cough which is related to infection i.e. tracheobronchitis or we can call it as kennel cough. It is a honk-like or high pitched cough which also retches.

Infectious tracheobronchitis is often found in the dogs where the number of dogs is huge. It is caused by the virus. This infection can also be transferred through the air. Dogs with smaller age or we call it a puppy are much risky, but not only younger dogs at high risk but the older dogs also may suffer from this disease. The first time the dog comes into the contact i.e. at the time of incubation the infection might transfer and the symptoms develop gradually within three to ten days time. This problem generally occurs due to the disorder in the respiratory system of the dogs. Infectious agents are contained in this disease. The common agents are mycoplasma, parainfluenza. Canine adenovirus also contributes a little to this disease. Here a special vaccine is also provided to the dogs for kennel cough, which is one of the most important vaccines.

The dog that is affected with kennel cough will continue shedding bacteria for about one to one and half years and by shedding the bacteria, this disease can also be spreaded to other animals during that period of time. Bordetella is only one of main agents that can be prevented against the kennel cough vaccines. When Bordetella and parainfluenza occurs together then it is said as tracheobronchitis. This is considered to be a hard and convulsive cough.

Infectious tracheobronchitis can be fatal mostly for young, old or the dog that is already ill from before. If the dog is kept with many more dogs then this vaccine is a must. It is because this disease spreads at a very great speed. Dogs who have already taken the Bordetella vaccine may also suffer with kennel cough but will be cured easily. This vaccine must be repeated in six months to be on the safe side. Parainfluenza is also an important vaccine. Bordetella and Parainfluenza must go hand in hand.

The vaccines of the dog do not effect for the first twenty four hours so must get vaccinated in advance.

The treatment of kennel cough can be recovered by keeping in mind certain points which would help in recovering the disease. Such as we must keep the dog in the warm situation and it also must not have any stress. Dog's collar must be removed so that he can feel relief. Try to make him drink lot of water and his throat condition must be good so that he can take the foods down well. Exercises must be limited and there must not be any kind of smoke near him. This is highly contagious. It seems like the dog has something in his throat and he is trying to cough. Most of the dog owners think that it might be just like that. The dog itself looses its appetite. Coughing might continue on regular basis. The cough can also occur by pressing the area of the throat.
