Winters are one time when most people get affected by cold very badly. For the sensitive ones, it is one time when they are sure to catch fever, cold, cough and all other related symptoms at least for a week, unless they have managed to successfully be out of contact from the cold environment. When someone catches all these contagious infections and the condition worsens to affect the respiratory system in a hard manner, it is known as viral nasopharyngitis or acute Coryza. Along with the fever cold and cough, there is general uneasiness in the body with a felling of constant fatigue and loss of appetite. The symptoms also include a sore throat with nasal and chest congestion. There is also excessive sneezing and muscle weakness in the entire body.
As per the doctors and health experts, germs and infections in the environments can be caught by anyone in any season, but it happens more so in winters. Thus, they advise everyone to cover up themselves properly during winters and avoid being in the cold. This is because when someone catches a cold in winters, the season aggravates it and the disease takes more time to cure than it normally would. During that curing time, there are chances of the condition being worsened by more diseases and infections affecting the person.
For cold natural treatment, the best thing that helps to deal with the nasal and chest congestion is steam. Taking regular steam helps the blocked nose and chest to heal faster by opening the air paths in the body. There are certain kinds of herbal and aromatic oils that are available in the market which can be added to the hot water while taking steam, as they enhance the process of recovering. Drinking hot water along with honey and a little amount of lemon juice also helps. For that matter, when one is affected with acute coryza, the person should consume only hot liquids such as soups, herbal teas, hot water etc.
In terms of food, one should keep it light. The amount of Vitamin C ingredients in the food should be increased as it helps boost the immune system. For this, you can squeeze a little amount of lemon juice over every food item as lemons are a good source of Vitamin C. Since there is decreased physical activity due to fatigue and muscle weakness, the food is advised to be light and easily digestible. Garlic and honey, and even dried thyme can be added as ingredients in all food items for relief. Peppermint and Chamomile teas are also good for consumption during the illness. These are widely used natural treatments for cold.
The disease is contagious and can spread via the infected person's cough, used dishes, clothes, room etc. Therefore, cleanliness in the area where the infected person is living is a must. A minimum of two weeks are needed for the person with acute coryza to recover. During this time, bed rest is advised because building the body immunity and stamina with adequate rest are very important.
