Dysentery is an intestinal infection resulting in inflammation of last part of intestines called colon. It causes severe diarrhea and appearance of blood in feces. If not treated in time can be fatal.
It is caused by two main types of bacteria and is subdivided with respect to its infectious classification. Dysentery caused by Entamoeba Histolytica is called Amoebic Dysentery, whereas the infection caused by Shigella bacteria is referred as Bacillary Dysentery.
Dysentery is caused, when you consume water or food contaminated with respective bacteria. The complications and symptoms in both types are the same such as frequent and uncontrollable passage of feces, abdominal pain and cramps, mucus and blood in stool, fever, shock and diarrhea.
Dysentery can be spread through contaminated water, rotten food items and fruits. Further the existing patients of dysentery can also serve as a major source of spreading the disease. Dysentery can be prevented by avoiding all kind of decayed foods. Always prefer to eat meals which are freshly cooked. Always use clean and filtered water, if you are not able to access bottled water due to some circumstances make sure to drink boiled water.
