Small intestine is greyish purple in color and it can measure more than six meters. Food digestion starts from mouth and it is passed to small intestine through stomach.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome: It is a type of disorder, in which, the bowel movement causes abdominal pain and discomfort. It may cause diarrhoea and constipation to the patient. Lack of fibre in diet may cause constipation, which blocks the intestine and tears inside the intestine. Sometimes, bacterial, parasitic or viral infections may cause IBS and it may also be caused due to stressful life style or irregular diet patterns.
Diverticulosis: It is a condition caused in the colon, in which, the muscles of the colon wall become weak and it may cause bleeding and abdominal pain. Constipation and high intake of red meat are some of the common causes of diverticulosis and patient are advised to take diet rich in fibre because fibre content allows water retention in small intestine and it may ease the bowl movement.
Endometriosis: It causes pelvic pain and it is most commonly found in women. The endometrial cells appear outside the uterine cavity and it causes pain, mostly, during the start of monthly cycles in women.
Bowel twist: It is very difficult to diagnosis bowl twist, but if left untreated, it may get fatal. Bowel movement is stopped because of the low blood supply to the arteries.
Gastroenteritis: It is a kind of stomach infection, in which, the gastrointestinal tract of the body including the stomach and small intestine suffers from inflammation and it can result in diarrhoea. The inflammation can be caused by infection from toxins, bacteria, parasites or viruses. Most of the gastroenteritis is caused due to unhealthy food and most of the victims of the disease are children.
Ileus: Ileus is caused when the gastrointestinal motor is disrupted and intestinal blockage is caused as a result of the disruption in the movement of the intestinal muscles. Reasons for disruption can be intestinal paralysis or some kind of surgery.
Crohn's ileitis: It is a condition, in which, a portion of small intestine called ileum is inflamed. Crohn's ileitis is a form of Crohn's disease, which is mostly found in teenagers and it causes crater like regions in the small intestine, which can later develop into deep ulcers. The symptoms of Crohn's disease are vomiting, fever, weight loss and pain in abdomen.
Appendicitis: It is a condition, in which, the appendix is inflamed and if the appendix is left untreated it may get fatal.
Coeliac disease: It is common form of small intestine disease, in which, the patient suffers from diarrhoea and fatigue. The problem is found in people of all ages and it is caused by the reaction to a form of gluten protein called gliadin. The treatment of the disease includes, eating gluten free diet. This is not a type of wheat allergy.
Enteroviruses: The infection of virus in intestine may cause enteroviruses.
